Ethical Dimensions of Risk and Crisis Management
 
Abstract:
Decision in risk and crisis management have many ethical dimensions, yet planners and decision makers often do not explicitly acknowledge or analyze them.  Partly, this is the result of the unconscious level at which many ethical judgments are made.  This talk will explore distributional and procedural fairness in risk and crisis management decisions and the ways in which unethical behavioral can lead to crisis.  Humans’ innate sense of fairness and self-serving bias will be discussed as a source of crisis conflict.  The utility of organizational codes of conduct, stakeholder involvement, and apology will be examined as practical tools for addressing ethical issues in risk and crisis decisions
 
主讲人简介：H. Keith Florig，弗洛里达大学工商管理学院风险管理研究院主任，卡内基梅隆大学工程与公共政策系副教授，美国国家科学院，国家辐射防护委员会，风险学会委员会成员。研究领域主要是公共风险和危机管理，曾受邀出席世界卫生组织，美国国会等机构的风险管理研讨会。在Science, Risk Analysis, Environmental Science and Technology, Health Physics, Journal of Risk Research以及一系列中国杂志上发表了多篇论文。Keith Florig持有有卡内基梅隆物理学士学位，硕士学位，核科学与工程硕士学位，工程与公共政策博士学位。
 
Bio: Dr. Keith Florig is Director of Risk Management Studies at the Warrington College of Business Administration, University of Florida, and Adjunct Associate Professor, Dept. of Engineering and Public Policy, Carnegie Mellon University.   Dr. Florig’s research and teaching activities focus on risk and crisis management in the public and private sectors.  Dr. Florig teaches executives and masters students at the University of Florida, Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, and Tsinghua University.  He has been invited to give seminars on risk management at many institutions in China and around the world.  Dr. Florig’s research has been published in Science, Risk Analysis, Environmental Science and Technology, Health Physics, Journal of Risk Research, and a number of Chinese journals.  Dr. Florig holds degrees in Engineering and Public Policy (Ph.D.), Nuclear Science and Engineering (M.S.), and Physics (M.S. and B.S.), all from Carnegie Mellon University.
